Professor of Classics with almost 30 years experience teaching Greek, Latin, and classical culture courses, as well as editing scholarly articles and student papers.

Methodology

My language classes at all levels, from beginner to advanced, stress student participation in reading, translating, and writing ancient Greek and Latin. I encourage students to study together, and work together in class, as well as individually. Students in my courses feel that they are part of a community that thrives together.

In my culture courses, I encourage class discussion of assigned readings, in addition to the supplemental background information that I give the students in lectures.

Background

I have a PhD in classics, and have taught for 28 years in both private liberal arts colleges and public universities. I have taught both small language and literature courses and large lecture courses. I have taught students who majored or minored in classics, and some have gone on to PhD programs in history, comparative literature, classics, art history, philosophy and religious studies.
