Provide assistance for students struggling with academic English in El Paso, Texas.

Methodology

I am a Higher Education Counselor for soldiers that are preparing to exit the military, and start college. With my experience in substitute teaching, I am able to assist elementary, middle, and high school students, as well as adults that need assistance with academic English, in order to help them with speaking, reading, writing, to include essay writing. Look forward to working with students on a one-on-one basis, to provide the most help for them.

Background

Served as a Substitute Teacher for a local school district for three years, working with students of all ages. Currently working as a Higher Education Counselor for soldiers that are transitioning out of the military, to help them to get into college.

Assist soldiers that are transitioning out of the military and planning to attend college. Teach a two-day class called “Accessing Higher Education Track” to provide soldiers with helpful information, providing them with research tools and allow time to research colleges. Students are given an overview of the two GI bills, have an opportunity to apply for the GI bill, do their FAFSA, learn about scholarships, and admission requirements. From the counseling office soldiers receive help in applying for colleges, and much more.


Technical Instructor February 2010 – September 2013 The Logistics Company/Cubic, Fort Bliss, TX

Trained soldiers preparing to deploy to the Middle East in driving skills and in useful tactics to use in the event of a vehicle roll-over. Taught classes on individual and crew serve weapons. Trained and certified in a variety of military classes, in order to be available to assist other training teams.

Trained soldiers in the areas of first aid, life skills, and physical training. Enforced safety standards. Protected base camp through various means, performed guard duty in watch towers, served as a team leader for a Quick Reaction Force team, insuring everything was secure on the base. Supervised twelve soldiers during work details to enforce perimeter security.

Cargo Inspector April 2002 – January 2003
Texas National Guard, El Paso, TX

Assisted US Customs, performing secondary inspections of vehicles crossing from Mexico into the United States. Made reports of various incidents. Supervised lower enlisted soldiers.
