Depending on the student's goals, I approach each topic as it comes, and work through several examples with the student until they can work on their own, or I create a structured lesson plan with predetermined sub-goals for each session and work toward achieving a certain level of mastery within the student's subject.
In 2018, I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Physics from Western Michigan University. I also had minors in mathematics and astronomy.
For the last two years of my undergraduate career I was employed as a learning assistant for introductory physics and chemistry courses at WMU. During this time, I also briefly had experience as a drop-in tutor for many more courses than I worked with as a learning assistant. These included university physics 1 & 2, college physics 1 & 2, electromagnetism, quantum mechanics, classical mechanics, thermodynamics, modern physics, electronics, and introductory astronomy courses.
I have plenty of experience working with students in small (one-on-one) and large (classes of 50) learning settings and I believe I have a lot to offer in the way of helping others learn.
In 2018, I completed a Bachelor of Science in physics and minors in mathematics and astronomy at Western Michigan University.
I was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Alpha Lambda Delta National Honors Society, the Society of Physics Students, the American Physical Society, the Michigan Louis Stokes Association for Minority Participation, the APS NMC mentoring program, the National Society of Hispanic Physicists, and the WMU Lee Honors College. I received the WMU Nathan Nichols Physics Scholarship on multiple occasions, as well as the WMU Physics Department Book Scholarship. I also made the Dean's List for four different semesters.
For the last two years of my attendance at WMU, I worked as a physics and chemistry learning assistant (and the occasional drop-in tutor) for Student Success Services at WMU. I facilitated learning for students taking introductory physics and chemistry courses at Western Michigan University by holding three one-hour-review sessions a week. I was responsible for monitoring student success contracts and recording data pertaining to student performance. I acted as a role model student for peers by attending all their course lectures and displaying model behavior. Lastly, I provided additional window to all campus resources and offered guidance in skills essential to professional, academic, and emotional development.
