I am very patient and love taking the fear out of mathematics (I know I was petrified getting my Master's!). I prefer working with junior high/middle school students and can easily work online for convenience. I am patient, but I do push my students to explain their reasoning - especially if they make mistakes. I feel very strongly that understanding the how and the why of math is just as important (if not more so) as getting the correct answer. If a student understands what they are doing and can learn from their mistakes, the answer typically comes out correct.
I also feel very strongly that a student's attention span may be limited. Thus, I try to be very attentive as to when a student has become tired and tailor the session accordingly
I have tutored several people informally and one student formally. He was a home schooled Junior high student. I raised his mathematics grade from a D to an A-. We worked exclusively online, but we were very effective in enabling him to understanding the complex ideas and making them simple.
