I was an art teacher for most of my career and also taught first grade, and second grade. After that I substitutes long term in the lower elementary grades as well as daily assignments in all grades through high school. A visual hands on approach is what I found most effective and interesting. I worked with young students in all subject areas.
I have taught in the classroom, helped students after school informally and I have two sons who I helped throughout their years in school. I have taught over 4,000 students and still am friends with former students and their children. I see students around town and always enjoy reminiscing with them about the fun we had in my class.
I received my undergrad degree in liberal arts with English and art concentrations. I got my teaching degree in the elementary area and my masters in reading. When I was an art teacher I had annual art shows with art from ALL of my students. I also selected and framed many pieces of art to enter in our summer county fair. I headed the Christmas food drive for several years and was honored for organizing and completing a school-wide mural celebrating our school's 50th birthday. I submitted my mural plan to our ISD and was instrumental in their mural creation as well. I also painted art murals on the walls outside my former classroom showing examples of art created by many famous artists. The one of me on Monet's bridge was their favorite! When teaching art I included history, math, reading, writing and spelling in my lessons. I always wanted my students to get a little of everything in my class.
