Skilled Molecular Biologist with 3 years of teaching experience tutoring Science in Chicagoland

Methodology

Each student is different. When I first meet with my students, I like to assess their interests, strengths, and weaknesses. This allows me to leverage their interests and strengths throughout our sessions, while monitoring improvement of their self-declared weaknesses. This also enables me to activate prior knowledge and allow the student access to the content.

Background

I have a B.S. in Biology and MS in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. I am also a Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics PhD candidate. I am certified by Oklahoma State Department of Education to teach all sciences grades 5-12. I taught AP and Honors Biology for 2 years with Oklahoma City Public Schools. I am currently a public school teacher at a charter elementary school in Chicago.

I received most of my training in education through Teach for America. Since, I have been involved with ongoing conferences and professional development. Prior to returning to the classroom, I was a laboratory research scientist at UIC. I worked alongside brilliant scientists targeting specific pathways in attempt to better understand the etiology of Triple Negative Breast Cancers.
