My teaching method is based on responding to the individual student's personality, and focusing on each student's music of interest. It is vital for students to be interested in what they are learning. Using songs and instrumentals chosen by the students, I guide them through higher and higher levels of musicianship.
I am a songwriter and musician with over 10 years of experience. I have been giving guitar lessons for 3 years. I also give piano and voice lessons. I have composed many pieces of music and completed 3 cds of songs which utilize guitar, voice, and piano extensively.

Assistant Poetry Teacher, Butler University, 2017--
Creative Writing Tutoring, 2016--
I have known Earl Townsend for nearly six years. I met him when he was an undergraduate at Butler University (where I teach creative writing). There, I spent four intensive semesters working with Earl in various poetry classes. In poetry workshops, which are often vulnerable situations, he was a kind, sensitive classmate. His fellow students shared with me how they felt supported, encouraged, and inspired by him.
After Earl graduated from Butler, he worked informally as an assistant for two of my classes. Again the students responded positively to his suggestions and insight.
Earl and I have also collaborated together on many creative projects. Our project involving poetry, music, and dance was performed on Butler campus during the Artsfest celebration in 2016.
I believe deeply in Earl's gifts as an artist and teacher. In addition to being a highly talented musician-poet and a dedicated scholar/thinker, he is a warm and gentle person.
In addition to his prodigious gifts as a writer and thinker, Earl is extraordinarily gifted with insight and understanding about his fellow human beings and himself. The innumerable exchanges we’ve had about humanity, about his inner life, and about art have enriched my own perspective.
Earl has been giving my son guitar lessons, and he has been instructing me on the piano. He is a focused, flexible, patient and encouraging as a teacher. I’ve already learned far more than I expected to, and my child who is ten years old often exclaims about what a great teacher Earl is.
Earl also house-sits for me and takes care of my four cats while I am away. He is dependable, caring, and responsible.
I have no doubt that Earl Townsend will practice and share his talents fully and eloquently, not only in his poetry and music, but in his life and in the lives around him. I recommend him without reservation. Should you need additional information, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
