I have been drawing and painting with a goal to be a successful artist since the early 1990s. I took a few art classes, but have mostly learned from books and an experimental quest for something beautiful and unique. When attending Indiana University I took a course entitled "teach yourself how to draw" where I learned lessons on my own and produced drawings for graduate students to critique and grade. My art was selected to advertise for that class in the future. My degree track ended up being a Purdue Engineering degree focusing on print design, multimedia production and 3D modeling for engineering. In this track i learned how to make and interpret engineering drawings and construct them with 3D design programs. A course called sketching for engineering helped me also sharpen my realistic drawing skills by teaching me how to calculate how shadows fall over objects and focused on precision in drawing.
My goal in this coarse is to help a student tap into and explore their creativity. I will familiarize myself with the student and see their work and talk to them about it. I will work with them and show them tips for drawing a little more towards the abstract with occasional splashes of surrealism. I will show them how to use unconventional methods and zero in on a style that shows their creativity yet will also be appealing to the general public. I will also give them direction on how to display their art around town and tips on what might sell more easily at shows to keep their dream alive and funded. I will have the student buy a course book and and complete multiple drawing exercises in the beginning and then move on to painting ideas and making themes.
This will be my first course. I've showed friends (and my two beautiful daughters) some things about painting and have been told that I should share my views and methodology. I have also pointed people towards a success in encouraging, motivation and showing them how to enter art shows and can give tips on what further supplies you might need as shows have different art hanging scenarios. It's always good to be prepared.
I explained a lot of this in the education section. I have art hanging internationally and am on internationally selling CDs as paint artist, designer and musician. I think I have a lot to give to a beginner or someone who can already draw well, but wants to bring out something different in their art that I will help them tap into.
