My name is Alan Clark ('Al' fo short) I work with students primarily in high school having to achieve success in subjects including mathematics (Algebra 1,2, Geometry 1,2, trigonometry and pre-calculus.I use students test scores and write my own examinations for my students to ensure their success. I create examples such as solving or simplifying mathematical expression and equations - I perform the work first then its the students turn to do the same and on a repetitive basis so that I'm confidant that they understand how to solve a problem and the theory that it represents.
I like to open a classroom by telling a joke or talkding about a funny news item (political, etc.) that the kids will either laugh at or have a short comment. Either way I get them to laugh and this relaxes them so they then are reading to "hit" the subject material.
I have been either giving or grading or reviewing lessons since 1994 when I worked as a full-time math and science teacher in a middle school (grades 6 & 8) in Indio, California. I also worked a both short and long term substitute for school districts in San Diego county, i.e. Escondido, Poway, Carlsbad, Encinitas and Oceanside. I normally conducted classes as per the teacher's lesson instruction but also had the opportunity to plan and conduct my own lessons - subjects such as mathematics, science (physics, chemistry), social studies and Spanish classes. I taught class of 28 to 40 students. At Indio Middle School, more than 80% of the students earned 'B' and 'A' grades As a long term substitute at Escondido High School, the majority of students in an english class were doing at least 'B' or 'A' work. Also I walk around the rows, always ready to visit any student has raised his or her hand about something he or she doesn't understand. I love to help kids this way. I never sit at the teacher's desk - never - love to move around - get to know my kids.
If It is necessary to drive more then twenty miles to visit the student at his/her home, I would add an additional amount equal to my hourly rate plus twenty percent of the rate, i.e. $24.00 plus $4.80 for a total of $$28.00. However, I'm negotiable - just depends.
