I have a Master of Natural Science degree and twenty-six years of experience as a biology teacher. My specialty is introducing beginning students to biological science, field science, and the philosophy of science. I've taught a wide range of courses across the biology curriculum to students ranging in age from 13 to adult. I've mentored numerous students in independent research. I have had a parallel career in practical conservation biology. I'm considered by many to be a humorous, engaging, inspiring, and compassionate teacher. I am currently doing scientific editing and tutoring with a five-star rating.
See me for help with General Biology, AP Biology, Genetics, Anatomy & Physiology, Environmental Science, Ecology, Zoology, Botany, Laboratory Methods, Study Skills, Scientific Editing, and pretty much any other biological topic.
I'm not advertising as a math tutor, but I have taken math through calculus with excellent grades and will be glad to help in that area as well.
I offer a group rate of $30/hr/student for study groups of up to four. You must be studying the same thing.

I participated in a week long summer field biology course taught by Barry McPhail at the suggestion of my older sister, one of his former students. His enthusiasm and genuine passion for biology and learning is contagious, and his knowledge is extensive. Those traits, coupled with his patience and ability to explain material clearly to students, make him a remarkable educator. I attended his course again the following summer and had such a positive experience that I decided to attend the Alabama School of Mathematics and Science in order to take more of his classes the following year. I highly recommend him.
I was a student of Mr. McPhail during my junior year of high school. Mr. McPhail has an extensive knowledge of environmental science and biology that is unparalleled. He is trustworthy and loyal to his students. He's always happy to answer questions and always goes 'the extra mile.' He is passionate about his work and subjects of which he's an expert on. I highly recommend him to anyone seeking to expand, deepen or gather an understanding of hard sciences.
I know this teacher through his wife who is an artist. Barry is kind and soft-spoken and can explain things in a way that is easy to understand and remember. I recommend him because he has a long track record of being a good teacher.
