My teaching method really depends on the German skills the individual student has acquired so far - if any - and on the student's goal and age.
Due to my experience I prefer to teach German to the younger crowd, ranging from preschool through high school. If you are an adult who wants to learn German as a hobby or for a vacation in Germany, I would also love to teach you.
I do have some teaching experience. In Germany I taught German, typing, and middle school level economics to adults. I also have experience as a volunteer, teaching German at The School for the Blind in Alamogordo, New Mexico. For the National Park Service I translated English guide leaflets into German.
After moving to Austin, Texas, I worked as a substitute teacher at a Montessori school for about a year. In addition, I volunteered at my children's elementary school as a tutor for reading.
I love my native language and I want you to have fun learning German.
Please cancel lessons at least 24 hours in advance. I will charge $15 for each lesson that has not been canceled or canceled too late.
My traveling charge is 15 cents/mile.
I was born and raised in Munich, Germany. After finishing the German equivalent of high school, I continued schooling at a 2-year, so-called subject school, where I concentrated on social sciences. I finished the school successfully and went on studying social work in college for another two years.
I also successfully finished an apprenticeship in business administration. The apprenticeship included teaching German, typing, and middle to high school level economics to adults.
I worked in business administration at several companies, including Siemens and Philip Morris.
In 1991 my husband and I moved to the United States. The first six years we ran a computer store in Alamogordo, New Mexico. During this time I also did language related volunteer work, such as translating English guides into German for the National Park Service. At the School for the Blind in Alamogordo I volunteered teaching German to interested students.
In 1997 we moved to Austin, TX. Here I worked as a substitute teacher for a Montessori school in Georgetown, Texas. I also regularly volunteered at my children's elementary school as a reading tutor.
I always loved language arts and excelled at all my schools in both English and German.
