I believe in facilitating classes, with learning being focused on active student participation and engagement. Instead of rote learning, students are actively challenged to reach their own conclusions with questions, discussions and corrections. I also incorporate much application of the language in daily life through engaging anecdotes / stories and relevant examples.
A general lesson would cover all bases - grammar, spelling, sentence structure, vocabulary, pronunciation, improving speaking skills, language in more informal settings etc. This will be varied, depending on the level of English. I'm flexible in structuring lessons around students' goals and helping them achieve their best.
Bilingual in English & Chinese, I have experience in teaching ESL, as well as 3 years of experience in tutoring students of all levels in English. I believe in catering lessons according to the student's priorities and necessary areas of improvement.
I've had 3 years of experience tutoring primary school and high school students in English, with much progress. Currently, I volunteer for the Refugee Language Tutoring Program (USyd Law Society), doing one-to-one tutoring for teaching refugees English as a second language. In high school, I debated competitively for 6 years and captained the team which emerged 1st Runner's Up in the Singapore Secondary Schools Debating Competition.
