For all students, I first will want to find out what their goals are and what prior training they have. This can be via an online conference or possibly via phone. I will want to assess current abilities by seeing a sample of written work (ESL) or having a conversation. I will work with students online to start improving vocabulary and comprehension. I will be flexible and try to work with whatever methods seem to work well with you. For biology and narrower fields, having the student suggest the area to work on and then pointing to relevant reading and following with discussion are more common, but again, variety and flexibility are key.
I am a veterinarian (animal doctor), pathologist (I study and diagnose disease, in animals), and toxicologist (I assist in assessing safety of drugs and chemicals, in particular their ability to cause cancer or acute side effects). I have a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree and Masters of Science both from Saskatchewan (WCVM), and a PhD from The Ohio State University. I am a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists and the American Board of Toxicology.

Qualifications in Biology
Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists and the American Board of Toxicology, with over 20 years of experience in veterinary pathology and research, as well as over 5 years of practice in mixed (i.e. large and small animal) veterinary medicine in Manitoba. Experienced in veterinary diagnostic pathology. Experienced in work with various pathogens (organisms) as part of studies to establish their life cycle and in the process of development of vaccines. Work with many laboratory species as well as (North American) farm species. My vast experience with the anatomy, physiology, and pathology of many species means I can help with understanding these and related topics. For students wishing a broader focus, I can start with taxonomy and principles of evolution.
Qualifications for ESL and teaching of English
I am experienced in writing scientific reports (narratives) for pharmaceutical companies, for grants (e.g., MCSDA), and for the FDA, as well as letters of reference and for other business purposes. I have authored several scientific publications. For those with an interest in zoology (and specifically veterinary medicine), I can focus on providing understanding of medical terminology and/or on teaching using farm, veterinary, or nature-based examples.
