Violin/viola teacher in the Ann Arbor Area: I have a Bachelor's in Music performance from the Cleveland Institute of Music, and a Master's degree from the Conservatory at the University

Having many years of experience in performance and having reached a very high level of playing for myself, I am confident in my ability to teach students from the beginning to an advanced level.
For younger students, I would insist that the parents are present and active in the learning process. This is paramount for realizing your child's potential. Playing an instrument, a stringed instrument in particular, is a very meticulous affair.
If possible, I prefer to teach for an hour at a time. I will likely be spending a lot of time on technique. This is an area in which most are deficient, and will greatly limit the player's expressive capabilities.
I am demanding and very thorough, but also seek to temper this with encouragement on whatever the student is doing well. There are always things we are improving on as well as lacking in. We must hold ourselves to a very high standard while also realizing that we have come a long way from where we started.
If a student has the most basic aspects of playing down (e.g. bow hold, left hand position, can play a a very simple melody), I will require at least an hour of daily practice.

For lessons within a 5 mile radius that I must travel to the student's home, I will charge $10 extra for lessons. anything outside of that will be a graduate rate of 75 cents per mile. on top of the initial $5.

I teach music reading, music theory, violin, viola. Lessons are available for the following levels: beginner, intermediate, proficient, for children
I give lessons in person at my home, the student's home or meeting in public locations.
I give lessons by webcam.

Tobiah's Experience

I have been teaching since I was in my Master's program. Mostly, I taught with an inner city outreach in Kansas City. I had three students who were doing very well. I gave supplementary lessons to a couple of other local high school students, both of whom were playing at a very advanced level. I guided them with their preparation and practicing process, as well as helped them when they were making audition recordings for music schools in university. One of them is at the Jacobs School at Indiana University, and the other is studying at my Alma Mater, the Cleveland Institute of Music.
I also had a private student who I would teach for two hours a week who drove up from Arkansas. She was half-way through high school. I worked with her on Mozart's Violin Concerto no. 5, and she won second place in her youth orchestra's concerto competition.
