Every student is an individual with their own unique learning style, motivation, and goals. My goal as a teacher is to figure out what makes each student "tick" and then use that to help them achieve their goals. I am also excellent at communicating with parents, and really love to help my students to both learn and love music!
I have been teaching music for over 15 years. My degrees are in the French horn (BFA, MA, and DMA), but I also have extensive piano teaching experience for ages 5-adult (including having been adjunct faculty at NYU), and have taught music theory and ear training for grades 4 - adult. I also have experience teaching students that have ADHD or are on the Autism spectrum.
I have successfully prepared French horn students for NYSSMA (many of my students have been received placements in Honor band), the Royal Conservatory (my students have all scored 90 or higher, one was selected to perform in their Celebration of Excellence Recital at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall), and AP Music Theory (all of my students last year received 5s on their exam), and have prepared students for entrance auditions to private high schools, all have been offered placements.
I have always had a passion for teaching music. I strongly believe that a well-rounded education includes music, that learning music is good for both the brain and the heart. While I am very proud of my higher achieving students, I am just as proud of my students who simply love music and know they will always find a place for it in their lives. I also enjoy working with adult learners, it's never too late to learn!
Amanda was excellent with my son. She was kind, patient, and VERY knowledgable. After listening to him struggle with the French horn for a year I heard a difference in his playing after just one lesson. He continues to improve and we couldn't be happier!
