« I was one of John's students at university. I took his Elementary Analysis II* class. Here's what I think:
1. He's passionate about mathematics.
I guarantee that you'll enjoy learning Math during sessions. Aside from explaining the lessons in a rational manner, he'll help you appreciate Math better.
2. He's got experience.
He's been teaching Math at university since he was 19. He knows the common mistakes students often make. He's ready to point it out and tell you to not commit the same mistakes.
3. You'll see yourself studying more Math voluntarily.
I think this is a side effect of appreciating Mathematics. He helps you see how beautiful Math can be, and as a result, you'll want to learn more on your own.

Students who have retaken a course under my instruction after failing the first time under another professor would say that they understood concepts better because of my analogies and metaphors, my abundant and carefully selected examples and exercises, my system of doing examples from easy to difficult, and the way I discuss concepts from concrete to abstract, from particular to general. Most of my successful students have said that after having been under my instruction, they appreciate math in a whole new light. Most of them tell me how I have left them a new sense of wonder for mathematics.

Aside from the aforementioned qualifications, I also have an abundance of references and resources, and a sizeable amount of experience: Having taught for 7 years (not to mention those undergraduate tutoring years), I have encountered students with diverse needs, and hundreds of different potential mistakes! For sure, among other tutors and teachers, I have the upper hand in easily pinpointing where a student could be struggling, and how it can be resolved. A typical testimonial about my teaching methods from previous students is the following: "So that's all it is. I didn't realize it was this easy before!" The exercises I give are always geared towards addressing typical difficulties and shortcomings. I also make sure most (if not all) of the possible cases are tackled.

Hi, I'm John! I'm a PhD candidate in UCSC. I graduated BS Mathematics, summa cum laude, and also already have an MS, also in Mathematics. I taught in college for about 7 years a variety of math subjects: algebra, trigonometry, precalculus, calculus, differential equations, linear algebra, non-euclidean geometries, real and complex analysis, and abstract algebra. I also used to train kids for the IMO. I also used to give lectures around my country to different schools and teacher conferences on mathematics appreciation: math in everyday life, pure math and critical thinking, logic and truth, and like topics. When I was in college, and even when I was already teaching college mathematics, I worked on the side as a tutor to grade school, high school, and college students. I love enlightening people about what mathematics truly is and what makes it interesting and beautiful. I am known to make deep and difficult concepts clear and awesome to students (and even teachers).

John Gabriel taught 2 out of 3 of my undergraduate calculus subjects. He's so good that when I had the chance to enlist his class again, I did without hesitation.
