I graduated high school in 1997. I then pursued my education at Salve Regina University. I double majored in elementary education grades 1-6 and special education grades k-8. I I taught special education for six years, and after budget issues caused my position to be terminated I then decided to go into a regular 5th grade classroom and have been doing that for the past ten years. Since I have started teaching I have always had very high expectations for all of my students and work very hard to ensure they meet those expectations.
I am currently in my seventeenth year of teaching. I started off teaching an eighth grade self-contained classroom. Myself and another colleague were the first to create an inclusive English Language Arts class. We worked collaboratively to differentiate lessons appropriate to all the levels of the students in the class. After six years, my job was closed and I became a 5th grade general education teacher. I currently teach reading and writing to 60 students a day. Each day I have to differentiate my instruction to meet the needs of all of the students. It is important to make sure those who are below grade level are getting the instruction they need as well as those who are on grade level need to be challenged.
