Most importantly, I want to go along with however you want to be taught. As a teacher, I would first love to get to know them and find out what they're aspirations are in music. I believe it is extremely important not just to teach students but have a personal relationship as well. I want to attempt to make each and every lesson as fun and interesting as possible, so we will start by learning what YOU want to learn, learning new techniques and skills with every song at your own pace. I will not require students to practice on their own time but will most definitely encourage it and express the importance of it. I can either teach by reading music or visually teach letting a student mimic what I do as I explain what I am doing, whatever the student would prefer. While learning songs, I also think its really important to have different guitar exercises to practice and master to improve your skills greatly.
I've taken a year-long AP music theory course my Sophmore year and I've been a self-taught guitarist since 12 years old until I started lessons with Blue Oyster Cult's (Don't Fear the Reaper, Godzilla) own Joe Bouchard. I was raised on all things classic rock (The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, The Kinks) but also have quite the interest in more modern rock (Radiohead, Muse, Beck) I practice on average about two hours daily and I would love to start applying my knowledge to young aspiring musicians.
