“Never judging, but striving to always be fair” is the motto in every one of THE ESSAY MASTER's classrooms, along with striving to bring both a sense of humor and passion into every lesson. He firmly believes that no one’s ideas are too small, and everyone matters. Education is all about learning from our mistakes and finding ways to engage with the material, so let's find new, fun, and lasting strategies to help you, your children, and/or your students do that.
THE ESSAY MASTER has taught English, Theatre, IB Literature, College Preparation, and Speech/Debate for over a decade. He holds a B.S. in both English and Theatre Education from Illinois State University and a B.A. in Communications from Lake Forest College, and a Masters of Literature from Northwestern University where he wrote a thesis about how to successfully integrate Shakespeare back into high school and college curricula.
He is a passionate educator who, through a myriad of experiences within the Chicagoland area has developed an understanding for what students respond to. He began his career in Education teaching high school English and Theatre on the South Side of Chicago and around the Chicagoland area. He has also served as a Department Chair at numerous high schools around Chicagoland. He enjoys Shakespeare, all types of music, WWE, the Cubs and Bears, motorcycles, and anything to do with Batman.
My Cancellation Policy
I value my time spent teaching, and your time spent learning. To facilitate the scheduling of lessons, I use the following cancellation policy:
Cancellation Policy for Students:
If a student wishes to cancel the lesson, she/he must provide notice at least 12 hours prior to the beginning of the lesson.
If a student cancels the lesson between 12 and 4 hours in advance, a cancellation fee of up to 35% of the lesson cost may be assessed.
If a student cancels the lesson less than 4 hours in advance (or does not show up to the lesson without prior notice) a cancellation fee of up to 50% of the lesson cost may be assessed.
If a student arrives to a lesson late, the lesson cost will include the time missed by the student.
If a student arrives to a lesson more than 20 minutes late, I may consider the lesson cancelled without prior notice.
Tutor Lesson Commitment:
I value my students time and education very highly, and as such I make every effort to adhere to scheduled lesson times:
If I am more than 15 minutes late, I will discount the lesson and charge only 50% of the scheduled lesson cost.
If I cancel a lesson with less than 12 hours notice, our next lesson will be free.
Brett is an experienced English teacher who loves students and loves to teach. Brett has staffed retreats for me at HPHS and I highly recommend him for tutoring because he also has a fun personality and is someone students respond to well.
