I learned from my mother when I was very young. Started sewing Barbie clothes of my own designing at age 10. I made my own wedding dress my last year in high school for my junior project. Graduated a year early at age 17. I worked for Elder Beerman doing alterations when I was 18 years old. I designed western shirts and skirts for over 12 years. I have reupholstered cars, and truck seats and furniture.
I have only given lessons to young kids between 10 and 16 a few times. But enjoyed it very much. They were able to make themselves a complete outfit each to go country dancing in. That was their goal. They learned how to read pattern instructions, how to cut out their blouses, and skirts all the way through sewing them together and making them fit. Including hand sewing. Button holes, zippers hemming and adding special designs when wanted. If you just want to learn basic sewing skills, that's great too!
